Welcome
... to the Psoriasis (and Psoriatic Arthritis)
OnLine Toolbox. If you're a first-time visitor please read about
the purpose of this site, its linking policies and some legal
notices and disclaimers on
this page.
How it works
The Toolbox contains research tools for finding
psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis-related information on the
Internet. Within the pages of this web site you will find annotated
links to pages on other web sites, and search forms that search
material on other web sites. When you select an external
link or use a search form, the targeted page or search results
will be displayed in a new, unframed browser window.
If your browser supports tabbed viewing you may be able to direct
targeted pages to appear in new tabs. For Firefox
users: select the menu items Tools>Options>Tabs, check
the option titled "Force links that open a new window to
open in:" and select radio button: "a new tab".
For IE7 and later users: select the menu items Tools>Internet
Options>(Tabs)Settings, and in the section titled "When
a pop-up is encountered" select radio button "Always
open pop-ups in a new tab".
The Tools
- Search
Tools
Search Tools contains search forms
that retrieve information from web sites and online databases
relevant to psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Search forms
are arranged by category. To use a form, enter a search term
in the form's white 'text box' and press the Search or
Submit or Go button. You may also use any drop-down
menus or check boxes within a form to narrow your search. Use
the drop down menu at the top of Search Tools as a shortcut
to jump to search categories.
- List O'Links
The List O'Links contains a set of annotated links to
online resources that provide information relevant to psoriasis
and psoriatic arthritis. The links are arranged by category.
Link categories span the topics of patient information, peer
resources, online communities, medical information sites, bioscience,
bioinformatics, research and clinical trial resources, alternate
treatment information and consumer resources. The intent is
to provide links to resources suitable for self-education at
multiple levels. Use the drop down menu at the top of List
O'Links as a shortcut to jump to a link category.
- Regulatory
Documents
Regulatory Documents contains
links to archived FDA
regulatory documents that review treatments for psoriasis and
psoriatic arthritis. Referenced documents include medication
guides, and pharmacology, toxicology and clinical reviews maintained
by the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
Links labeled 'Search Medwatch'
return search results from the FDA's Safety Information and
Adverse Events Reporting Program. Links labeled 'Search FDA'
return search results from the complete FDA web site. Please
remember that archived documents are historical by nature. The
information they provide on the safety and efficacy of reviewed
treatments may not be up to date.
- Literature
Searches
Literature Searches contains links
to preformatted PubMed searches using search-terms relevant
to psoriasis and psoriatic-arthritis. PubMed
is a database containing references to millions
of articles published in thousands of peer-reviewed journals
in the life sciences and biomedicine. Pubmed is searched using
Entrez,
an on-line search tool created by the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI).
Search results are displayed as links to references. A reference
often points to an abstract (summary) of an article, the full
article being available at the publisher's website for a fee.
To find only references to articles that are freely available
in full text format, re-submit your search term using the PubMed
Central database. If you would like to create your own links
to Entrez searches, NCBI provides this
tutorial.
